I'm not a Yogi 🧘🏞

And other lies I've been telling myself ðŸŦĢ

Not so long ago, a local event called all yogi's to join. A friend suggested we go, and I politely declined as I was not a yogi and would NOT fit in with everyone else. She looked at me with a surprised look 👀 Me, not a yogi?! Nope, I was adamant. I was not a yogi, far from even!

At that point, she started laughing to the point that the tears were rolling down her cheeks, she believed I was very funny. Not sure what I said that made her cry with laughter ðŸĪ·ðŸžâ€â™€ïļ I always knew I have a great sense of humor but this...

She then just wanted to confirm a couple of things with me:

  • Didn't I practice yoga every single day for the past 1136 days in a row? Euh yes...
  • And I take my yoga mat everywhere I go, even on holiday? Yep
  • And when you were on your last holiday, didn't you try aerial yoga? Ah, that's right, that was a lot of fun!
  • Didn't I go on a yoga retreat last year? Oh yes, I forgot about that.
  • And I have a subscription to Yoga with Adriene? Yes, but only since last month. Before that, I followed her on her YouTube Channel
  • Besides the downward-facing dog, you can name at least 4 other yoga poses? Probably even more
  • Do I have yoga outfits? Well, not really, those are just comfy pants 😅

With her last question, she wanted to make a point... and you still don't see yourself as a Yogi?

Ok, then maybe I am ðŸĪŠ

It is funny to realize the big difference between how people see you and how you see yourself.

What standards was I using to define myself as a Yogi? Are there even any standards, besides the one we have made up in our mind? None, zero... it's not that you need to practice at least 4 times a week for at least half an hour. If there are standards, please let me know 😂

Do you have any idea what this is also called? Imposter Syndrome, meaning: doubting your abilities and feeling like a fraud. That was the only reason I would not go, I was doubting my abilities and feeling like a fraud.

I realize now I was being ridiculous 😖 Maybe even more importantly, it made me think about other lies I've been telling myself. After some self-reflection, a couple of things came to the surface âœĻ but I will not bother you with that today 🙃

So, my question to you... what lies are YOU telling yourself Reader, how is that imposter syndrome showing up for you?

Then ask someone in your inner circle how they see you on that topic. I'll tell you now, you'll be surprised 😊

And from now on, I AM, among other things, A YOGI ðŸ§˜ðŸ―â€â™€ïļ

Sending you lots of love from South Africa

View in browser Don't you just love it Reader when people make something look very simple but more than often it is far from easy to get it done! Oh, Peggy, going for a 5K run, is very simple (advice from a marathon runner 😆), just put one foot in front of the other, do this at a faster speed than walking, and just as long until you get your 5K done 😂 Until I put on my running shoes and hit that first uphill ðŸĨĩ It might be SIMPLE but NOT EASY! After the - it's simple for you to say - thought,...
